mugwort counseling

Mugwort Counseling brings together Creativity and Process Work to deepen our understanding of self as a sentient being.

What is Process Work Therapy?

Process Work is an awareness paradigm. Its methods allow us to perceive the creative nature of processes, even within bothersome and complex situations. It is a dynamic orientation and method of working with the challenges of our inner and outer life events. Its methods are also helpful in facilitating organizations and communities dealing with conflict, recovery, and social change.

AAIPI & Diaspora Focused

As a Korean immigrant, I find working with Asian American and Indigenous Pacific Islander clients most effective and rewarding. Our community has a unique individual and group process, and it is essential to understand and honor our unique struggles. Common topics include shame, internalized oppression, model minority myth, micro-aggression, invisibility, fear, and anxiety coming from anti-Asian racism. Supporting the BLM movement starts with understanding our racial identity and our anti-black biases. BIPOC, LGBTQ +, adoptees, refugees, and immigrants are welcome.

I also work with those living and working in Korea who need support navigating the culture.

Leadership Coaching

I support individuals and groups to find and deepen their unique leadership styles. I combine my experience in Design Thinking, Process Work (AKA Process Oriented Psychology), Conflict Facilitation, and Gender and Racial Equity. Before jumping into facilitator and process work therapist, I worked full-time at design consultancies and government and ran a consulting business in New York City. These lived experiences have helped me understand the context of clients' challenges.

Explore childhood dreams and memories to understand our life myth

Principal and Ethics

I follow the code of ethics in therapy for practitioners in the USA. It means…

  • Confidentiality. What you share stays with me. An exception is when there is a possibility of self-harming or harming others). Equal power

  • Co-creation: I am not here to give you any advice as someone superior in any way. We are in this together.

Cost  and more

For individual sessions, the sliding scale depends on income level. I offer a low-income discount at the inquiry.   A portion of the profit goes to my life’s work, stopping violence against women. My focus is to honor and bring healing for the victims and survivors of the current and past wars. As a Korean descendant, I work with the “Comfort Women,” sexual slavery organized by the Japanese government. I believe the healing of intergenerational trauma impacts all of us and our future generations.

Testimony

"I've seen Jooyoung for the last few months discussing everything from workplace dynamics to decision-making processes to body symptoms. I always appreciate how attuned she is to what I say and my tone and presence in a space; it's a degree of attention that I cherish. In a few months, Jooyoung has helped me suss out lessons from nighttime dreams and provided space to work on old personal truths, often providing practical tools to use outside our sessions." - L, program manager at a nonprofit

“I was able to strengthen my personal skills to grow professionally. We had sessions dedicated to work dynamics and salary negotiations, which were very helpful. As I grew in my role, Jooyoung and I also worked on strengthening my leadership skills and growing my role in the organization. Besides the formal coaching, Jooyoung is a great listener with a genuine interest in people. This made speaking about all the topics easy in an open and honest environment. She genuinely cared about providing the best input and support with tools and other materials. We had  wonderful, flexible, and effective cooperation even though we never were in the same time zone!”

- C, researcher at a corporate insights and research team

”Jooyoung Oh helped me live the life I wanted to live. Four years ago, I was struggling to go anywhere and just be myself. I could not accept who I was. I was not happy with the person I saw in the mirror. I was constantly filled with anxiety and doubt. Now, I find myself helping others when they’re in need. I find myself being the strong one when others are weak.

Mine was a long journey of traditional therapy (psychiatrists, psychologists) that simply didn’t work for me. There were certain elements that I could use for my life but it really didn’t fit who I am. Jooyoung’s approach taught me how to embrace my past and my fears. She taught me how to love myself and find strength in my weaknesses. It is a process. It is a journey. All the time spent amidst the pain and adversity is well worth it. I no longer look at my past as a burden but as a source of strength. I see my weakness as a place where I can find wisdom. Give yourself to the moment. Learn from Jooyoung. You will love yourself for it.” - O, film maker and dad
